In November 2023, renowned video game composer, Austin Wintory posted a composing challenge video on YouTube wherein viewers were tasked to write a piece of music using a selection of notes, with no regards to the rhythm that he used, from the opening song, Adrift, from his score for Stray Gods.

For this challenge, I wanted to recreate the blissful feeling of standing under falling snow. Regarding the pitches that were given, I gave them to the cello section after the first few bars then when everything played together, I brought in the melody on the 1st violins over the top of everything else.

Falling Snow was partially inspired by Ralph Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis in regards to the instrumentation used: double string orchestra - the first orchestra playing and utilising the melodic parts and the second providing accompanying passages and counterpoint parts to the main melody.
